Notes:
- Due to a flaw in the design of the WM6 Storage card encryption, you will not be able to recover encrypted data after a hard reset. Sprite Backup provides a solution for this.
- Sprite Backup includes support for restoring after a device or ROM upgrade. This makes it easy to bring your applications and data with you when you move to a new device.
Useful Tips
- Please take a quick look at the manual: you don’t need to get into the detail, but it will give you a good idea where to find information and will help you get the most of your evaluation
- Read through the best practice section below: You’re probably already familiar with desktop best practices, but mobile devices DO have some inherent unique aspects
- Use Sprite Explorer to browse and extract files or directories: This desktop tool is simple to use and you’ll be able to extract to your destop OR to your mobile device
- Automate your backups: For the evaluation, set the backup schedule to backup daily. This is a “Set and Forget” operation and guarantees that your contents are protected during the evaluation.
- Plan your Backup Storage Requirements: DO set the options for managing either the total space used by backup files, or the number of files to keep. You can also set file exclusion rules to exclude music files.
Best Practices
- Configure automatic backups to avoid having to backup manually. Take advantage of backup on first connect or daily and weekly backups.
- Keep a backup off-site or at the very least separate from your easy-to-lose device. Sprite Backup supports this with the remote and desktop backup capabilities.
- Practice your disaster recovery plan - a good backup can only be considered as such when it is successfully restored. Always practice a restore before you actually have to rely on it.
- Maintain at least four backups at all times - we recommend at least 2 of these be on your PC so that they are available in the event of device or memory card loss or theft.
- Set a password - password protect your valuable backups to eliminate the risk of your data being compromised.
- Automate backup management - apply the file management options to manage the storage space used by Backup files.
- Dedicate a storage card for backup purposes and label it. Keep it separate from your device.
- Familiarize yourself with the documentation for the software to ensure you are taking full advantage of the available functionality.
